AUTOCROSS SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS FOR THE

OKLAHOMA REGION SCCA AUTOCROSS SERIES

Unless otherwise stated herein, the following supplemental rules adopted August 1st, 2022 shall be used in conjunction with the most recent edition of the SCCA National Solo Rule Book. These supplemental rules supersede all past supplemental rules adopted by the Oklahoma Region prior to this date and will be in effect in their entirety. These regulations can only be modified by a majority vote of the Oklahoma Region SCCA Board of Directors. National SCCA guidelines for Safety will be followed during all Oklahoma Region SCCA Autocross Events. Regular Committee meetings may be held at the discretion of the Committee Chair(s).

Autocross Committee:

The Regional Executive may appoint an Autocross Committee Chair. The Autocross Committee shall consist of members who volunteer for Committee positions as defined by the Autocross Chair. Any Oklahoma SCCA member in good standing may hold an Autocross Committee position. Members so appointed will serve at the pleasure of the Autocross Chair. Action of any appointed committee member will be effective only within the authority and responsibility set forth in the Oklahoma Region SCCA Bylaws or delegated by the Oklahoma Region SCCA Board of Directors.

Removal from Autocross Committee:

Inasmuch as the Autocross Committee is a volunteer group appointed by the Autocross Chairman, the Autocross Chairman or Board of Directors has the right to remove any Autocross Committee member who is not acting in the best interest of the Oklahoma Region Autocross program.

Safety:

The Oklahoma Region SCCA has a strong focus on safety at every event. Regarding safety, in general, use common sense and consider the following:

  • Paddock/ grid speed limit is 3-5 mph. That is slower than walking speed.
  • No scrubbing or warming of tires anywhere on site or in the local community.
  • Spinning of tires anywhere on or near the site (except on course) will be grounds for immediate ejection from the event.
  • Never turn your back on a moving vehicle, especially when working the course.
  • No horseplay involving a moving vehicle.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, roller skates/blades, mopeds, or any other wheeled conveyance apparatus are prohibited in the grid/course area. Wheeled medical devices are permitted.
  • Drones/UMS are prohibited from all event areas (grid, course, site access, etc.) from the initiation of setup through the closure of the event.
  • Use common sense, there are too many No-No’s to mention.
  • Spectators in grid: Competitors will be responsible for limiting the number of spectators in the grid during timed runs. At the discretion of the event Autocross Safety Steward, spectators may be asked to leave the grid area if they pose a safety hazard either to themselves or to other competitors. In no event should there be so many spectators that competitors in adjacent grid spaces have difficulty servicing their vehicles or are in other way inconvenienced.
  • All persons entering the event site, whether competitors or spectators, shall sign the SCCA waiver (paper or electronic) and obtain a wristband. The wristband shall be worn on either wrist for ease of identification. If a wristband is obstructed by clothing or other means, an event participant (competitor or spectator) may be asked to display the wristband to an event official when asked. An SCCA member will be given a different color wristband than a non SCCA member; this is to easily distinguish approved passengers in competition vehicles. Members may display a current SCCA Annual Waiver badge in lieu of a wristband.
  • All vehicles (except those who have been granted an annual tech inspection waiver) must pass the morning vehicle Tech. The Autocross safety inspection conducted at each event by the Oklahoma Region Tech staff, as outlined in the current SCCA National Solo Rules Section 3.3.3 (B), is an aid to help competitors spot obvious and common deficiencies, but this inspection IN NO WAY relieves the entrant of their responsibility to properly maintain and monitor their vehicle for safe operation. Inspection includes but is not limited to a working seat belt, good return on throttle, brake pressure, a secure battery, tight lug nuts, no questionable play in suspension and bearings, no loose or leaking components, interior free of loose items including floor mats, street tires must have measurable tread left and no cords showing.
  • As part of the vehicle tech procedure, the helmet will be checked for compliance with current SCCA National Solo Rules Section 4.3.1. Helmets that comply will be indicated as such with a sticker unique to the region for ease of identification. These stickers will be valid for the balance of the season. Helmets displaying a current National Tour or Midwest Divisional sticker will be considered compliant. No car will knowingly be allowed to proceed to the starting line with non-compliant helmets in use.
  • At no time during the event shall any entrant, crew-member, or worker consume any intoxicating or illegal substance. The penalty for such action shall be the immediate suspension of the offender from all further Oklahoma Region SCCA Autocross events for the duration of the year and automatically forfeiting eligibility for any/all points, awards for all events and the Championship Series.

 Regional Series Championship:

Only Oklahoma Region SCCA members are qualified to earn points towards this Championship.

Events will usually be held between the months of March and November. The events will be held normally on Sundays..

The Regional Summer Series will consist of approximately 10 “Points Events”. Additional “Non-Points Events” may be scheduled at the discretion of the Autocross Chair and/or Committee. Special “Double Points” events may be scheduled at the discretion of the Autocross Chair and/or Committee.

Eligibility for year-end Championship standing requires that entrants must compete in at least fifty one percent (51%) of the scheduled events in the same class.

Year-end class trophies will be awarded to the qualified entrant who has the highest number of points scored. These points will be computed for each qualifying driver using their scores from each Points Event, throwing out the 2 (two) lowest results. Canceled events are separate from the lowest 2 (two) scores and will be in addition to the lowest 2 (two) scored events.

Year-end awards shall be given to the highest placed drivers in each class on the following basis.

  1. One (1) award for one to three (1-3) entrants in a class.
  2. Two (2) awards for four to six (4-6) entrants in a class.
  3. Three (3) awards for seven to nine (7-9) entrants in a class.
  4. One (1) additional award for every four (4) additional entrants or

fraction thereof (e.g., six (6) awards for 18 entrants).

At each event, minor trophies will be awarded for the top finishers in each class based on the criteria above. In addition, the top 5 Fastest Time of the Day will also receive minor trophies. These trophies have no direct impact on the year-end points championship.

Points will be awarded on a performance-based scale, utilizing the formula:

100 — (900 x ((Entrant’s Time – Class Winning Time) / (Class Winning Time))

For example:

Pos. in class Driver Total Time for Event
(in seconds)
Points Awarded for This Event
1 Driver 1 117.290 100.00
2 Driver 2 117.337 99.64
3 Driver 3 117.842 95.76
4 Driver 4 117.950 94.94
5 Driver 5 118.172 93.23

Points will typically be displayed as whole numbers in the official point standings document(s). Points are however calculated using all significant figures of the collected time data to the nearest one thousandth of a second.

Live-timing page and any results/times delivered on event-day, are done so as a courtesy and are unofficial until audited by Timing and Scoring. The official results and points standings are made available on the okscca.com page approximately 1 (one) week after the event.

Any challenges to times, points, or errant classing must be brought to the attention of the Chief of Timing and Scoring directly, no later than 2 weeks after the official results & points are made available.

All competitors must complete their work assignment to receive points for the event.

Event Classing:

Classes detailed herein will be included in the Championship Series at the discretion of the Autocross Chair. Midwest Divisional events will be timed and recorded in the current SCCA National Classing format, local PAX classes will be recorded and updated after the event.

All eligible competitors will compete for an overall PAX championship.

  • Indexed class scoring will be based on the SCCA National base classes or the following PAX groupings, further explained below: Novice, Masters, Ladies. Overall FTD scoring will also be included as a separate scoring challenge.
  • Base class scoring will be based on raw time according to the current SCCA Solo Base Classing. Base classes will be recorded and included in the year-end Championship.

(N) Novice Class will be included in the Championship Series. Novice class is open to any entrant who has not competed in autocross competition, with any autocross club, in any previous calendar year. A competitor who runs in the Novice class during any Regional Series event may continue to run in Novice class for the balance of that calendar year series, however the competitor must then move to a regular class for the following calendar year series (regardless of the number of events he/she ran in Novice class during that previous calendar year series). Points will be awarded against the SCCA National index respective to the registered class.

(M) Masters Class will be available to any competitor aged at least 55. Points will be awarded against the SCCA National index respective to the registered class.

(L) Ladies Class will be available to any female competitor. For the purposes of Oklahoma SCCA competition, gender will follow what shows on any competitor’s government issued driver’s license. Points will be awarded against the SCCA National index respective to the registered class.

(FTD) Fastest Time of the Day awards will be given based on RAW times. All competitors are eligible for FTD trophies regardless of base or PAX class.

Classic American Muscle Oklahoma regional rules- the following cars will be added to CAM classing for Oklahoma Region SCCA events:

CAMS- Dodge/SRT Viper (2013-2017)

CAMC- Pontiac Grand Prix GXP (2005-2008), Chevrolet Impala SS (2006-2009), Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS (2006-2007)

The Autocross Chair(s) shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications in this Supplement or the SCCA National Solo Rules.

Example uses of this rule:

  • Classing non-US spec vehicles
  • Allowing vehicles over 30 years old to compete in Street class

Class and Number Display:

It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that the correct number and class are displayed on both sides of the vehicle prior to each run. The size and stroke of the required numbers and letters are addressed in the current National SCCA Solo Rule Book. Incorrect numbers or class designation may result in errors in timing and scoring that may not be correctable. Alternatively, the run may not be scored at all. No make-up runs will be allowed to correct number and class errors. Those without their own numbers may check-out/borrow magnetic (when available) numbers at the Tech station during morning Tech. Tape and shoe polish numbering are discouraged due to readability issues on course.

  • Vehicle identification will use SCCA National Classes. For example, car number 173 is in Base Class CAMC, Acceptable numbering/lettering is 173 CAMC. No additional letters are needed to identify the PAX class.
  • Duplicate numbers will be allowed outside of the SCCA National Classes. Example, 20 SM and 20 AS are acceptable. Numbers will be determined on a first come first serve basis.

Autocross Event Operation:

All registrations must be made online at https://www.motorsportreg.com including in person registrations on event day. Registration typically closes at 4:00 pm the day prior to the event for worker assignment determination. Registration will reopen on event day at 7:30 am and close promptly at 8:30 am. Some flexibility may be offered under special circumstances but is not guaranteed. Pre-registration or early registration is strongly encouraged so that the event can begin on schedule.

In addition to National SCCA Autocross rules sections- 8.3.1, 8.3.2, 8.3.3, 8.3.4, 8.3.5, 8.3.7, 8.3.8, and 8.3.9, the following Oklahoma Region SCCA regulations will be observed:

Entrants are responsible for correctly classing their cars under the Autocross Rules. Any question about a car’s proper classification, including protests, should be brought to the attention of the Autocross Chair and/or Event Coordinators prior to the commencement of the event. Cars ineligible for the class marked on the car will be disqualified from the event if successful protest is lodged. The protest fee is $50, payable by cash or check to the Oklahoma Region SCCA. Upon successful protest, the protest fee will be returned. If the protest is overturned, the protest fee will be retained by the Region. All protest decisions will be made by a tribunal consisting of the Autocross Chair, Chief of Tech, and Chief of Competition. Protests must be unanimously upheld in order for the protest to be considered successful. If any of the three members of the protest tribunal are competing in the same class or associated in any way with either of the protested or protestor, he will designate a replacement and remove himself from the proceedings of the protest.

All entrants are required to present their car at morning Tech and pass inspection. Exceptions to this are Oklahoma Region SCCA member vehicles that possess a current year Oklahoma Region SCCA Annual Tech sticker. The Oklahoma Region will recognize Annual Tech Inspections performed by any other SCCA region, as long as the competitor fills out the Oklahoma Region annual tech form and shows proof (ex: another region’s annual tech sticker) to an approved tech inspector.

All entrants are required to attend the Driver’s meeting that is held just prior to the event’s commencement.

Whenever possible, after beginning a timed run each car may not reenter the course until a minimum of 10 cars have preceded or 5 minutes have elapsed between leaving the course and starting the next run, without the approval of the Grid Master of Autocross Chair.

An unlimited number of drivers may compete in a single car provided the staging allows. Multiple driver cars should be brought to the attention of the event coordinators early to ensure adequate time for driver change rotations.

All entrants must complete all work assignments as directed by the Event Coordinators or they will be disqualified from the event and Championship Series. Competitors who habitually miss work assignments will be excluded from future events at the discretion of the Autocross Committee. Any special circumstances should be worked out in advance with the event Registration Chair or the Autocross Chair. Heat assignments may not be requested.

Event trophies will be limited to the top finishers in each class. The number of top finishers will depend on the number of entrants participating in that class. Larger classes will have more trophies and smaller classes will have fewer trophies.

Fun Runs will be offered at the discretion of the event coordinators.

Event Fees:

Entry fees are $40.00 for Remington Park events

Late fees of $10.00 for SCCA members and $5.00 for non-members will be applied to any entrant who registers the day of the event.

Weekend Membership fees of $20.00 will be applied to any non-member registrant. This membership provides the same insurance that full SCCA members enjoy and it permits the holder to participate in as many SCCA events as they like during the five-day period starting the 1st event-day for which it was purchased.

Non-Remington Park events will be assigned an appropriate entry fee set by the Autocross Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. All other fees (late & Weekend Membership) will still apply to non-Remington Park venues.

All payments are required to be made online though https://www.motorsportreg.com. Cash is not accepted as a form of payment.

 Amendments to these Rules:

The Autocross Chair is empowered and encouraged by the Oklahoma Region SCCA Board of Directors to update this document as needed and/or necessary. Revisions/updates should be presented at the Oklahoma Region SCCA Board of Directors meetings for review and approval.
